WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is a form of treatment where we insert 0.16mm hair-thin, single-use needles into different points throughout the body to promote circulation, and restore homeostasis and balance. Recent research has discovered that acupuncture stimulates the release of oxytocin, a hormone that regulates the parasympathetic nervous system.
DOES IT HURT?
Acupuncture is not painful, but it is also not sensationless. When a hair-thin needle is inserted, there might be a sensation I’d describe as pinchy, or you won’t feel anything at all. Once the needle is in, there is no further feeling, just relaxing.
DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK IMMEDIATELY?
In some cases, acupuncture can provide immediate relief, but in many cases acupuncture works best within 4-6 sessions. Acupuncture is not a one-shot deal, but it works cumulatively. That is, one treatment is built on the next.
WHAT IS ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE?
Electro-acupuncture (EA or E-stim) is an acupuncture technique that has recently come into use, while acupuncture has been used for thousands of years. EA intensifies the acupuncture treatment by using the devices used to adjust the frequency and intensity of the impulse being delivered. Recent article has shown that EA is more effective than manual acupuncture for analgesic effect.
CUPPING
Cupping is a term applied to techniques that use small glass cups on the surface of skin to bring up toxins and improve circulation. Cupping is most commonly done on the back and is best used for reducing pain. Cupping doesn’t hurt, but it helps relieve muscle tension and tightness. Cupping doesn’t hurt, but small round marks may remain from the cupping temporarily last for hours to weeks.
